Improving quality of life through design

This page will be filled with my online musings and thoughts as they relate to architecture and the world about us. I hope to be able to share thoughts that people can find some value in. If you have any questions that I might be able to help with please do not hesitate to reach out to me at jgolden@jamespgolden.com.

While I may not have a set schedule for postings (as you can see, having two toddlers and running your own business is time consuming), I am aiming to post more regularly however. Architecture, and the built world around us, has much to be discussed.

I will focus much on the things that I find my clientele focusing on, their hopes and dreams and incredible visions for their homes. It may take a family to make a house a home, that home is the backdrop for so many of our important moments in our lives. Children’s first steps, the joy of meeting that special someone, great family dinners with special people in our lives. Its that backdrop that can really enhance those memories.

I know that when I was growing up we would go and visit my maternal grandparents, and now whenever I see fireflies and weeping willows it reminds me of them and that time in my life. I have a feeling that my children, Raddalynn and Finnegan, will have the same feeling from the smell of lilacs, as there are just so many around us.

While architects do not have control over insects, I can and do try to mage magical moments that are both breathtaking visually and at times can have special moments that the vegetation can provide via their smell.

So many of the timeless architects whose projects that we admire so much are so well thought of because of those special moments that they contribute to in ways that we think are inconsequential but are so important. So by us learning from the past, and what worked well and what did not, we can use it to inform our new home designs.
